Rain and Pool Chemistry

Mother nature loves to provide us with many things. Rain is one of them. While it is excellent for our flowers, crops and grass, it sometimes can change our pool chemistry. Did you know that? Light showers typically won't cause too may issues. It's the downpours that can cause some ups and downs in your chemistry levels.
Acid rain can cause your PH levels to drop. However, this is what alkalinity's job is! When rain tries to lower the PH, the alkalinity can take a big hit. This means, your alkalinity levels might see more of a drastic change than your PH levels, which is a GOOD thing!
Rain water can bring contaminants to your water! When this is the case, you must watch your sanitizer (chlorine) levels. It is very important to always have clean pool water! Remember, just because it's clear, it doesn't mean its clean! Shocking your pool isn't necessary, although not a bad idea either. It can never hurt and you could just do it for good measure! This will help fight any contaminants that the rain brought to your pool.
